I am 22 years old... BUT WHO CARES!??!!?! I need to get over it. What's the big deal?! I'm getting older, more towards what I want to do in life, smarter, wiser, more mature... and so on! I can't be 16 and go to Physical therapy school or open up my own clinic or do the Peace Corps... I have to be older to do everything I have in mind! Birth- day= Oxford for the day!! What more can I ask for?! :) I've heard lots of good things about how wonderful Oxford is so I am so excited! Despite the way I feel at the moment (9 am in the morning)... this day is going to be great! Pheuw! Good thing I slept on the bus for an hour or else I'd be in trouble... I feel much better now! Hydrated, rested, and ready to walk the streets of good ol' Oxy ;)
Right when we got off the coach bus we had a walking tour by a cute old guy. (I only say he's cute because after the tour he led us to this interesting market and showed us around- it was so nice of him to do that!)
We visited the famous Turf Tavern
And lookie here-->
- "Finalists" - meaning graduates.
-- We came the day that students were graduating!! We saw them with their black robes walking down a back street with silly string and confetti all over them! It was so cool to see that part of Oxford!
One thing I noticed was that EVERYONE rides bikes! I LOVE IT!!!! :)
Then, we went to Christ Church!!! First, I wasn't too excited about this. I thought we should have toured Oxford University but I had no idea Christ Church is home to where a lot of Harry Potter is filmed!!!!
[ apparently this is Artist Row ...haha because everyone was sitting here painting this landscape]
[Christ Church garden]
[HP stairs!] [HP hallway]
[HP dining hall!!!!] [where HP sat :)]
-- it looks way different but I'm sure they did a lot of changes with the movie]
[Quiddich field!!!!] SO COOL! :)
:) :) :)
[Healing Tree: heal me please.]
[Had to do it! Classic Phonebooth picture!-- in my Oxford Crewneck!]
Anyways, after we saw Christ Church we saw the River Thames which was cool because it is the main river running through London! Then, we all went to the row of Oxford stores that have perinatal. I bought 2 Oxy sweatshirts and 2 shirts! :) I was specifically looking for a sweatshirt that had the Oxford Crest on it-- which I found in ONE store! After, a few of us wandered around Oxford just exploring. I thought Oxford University was like a big old school but I believe it is spread out throughout the village of Oxford (or at least one side of the village). I saw the departments of Inorganic Chemistry and Statistics. And they were near where the map says "University of Oxford." But I didn't see any large sign saying "University of Oxford"-- which makes me think it is spread out ... who knows.. I could just be rambling on thoughts about this.
In conclusion, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE OXFORD. I believe I could definitely see myself living there. Maybe being a student there.... haha ... I can only wish right?! The village is so perfect in size, not too quiet, not too loud, nice people, gorgeous buildings, lots of history, close to the city(London) yet not too far... I'm in love. :) Also, the energy there is incredible. It could have just been because we came on the day that all the students were graduating but I have a feeling the energy comes from the town too. It made me happy and made my birthday extremely enjoyable :)
We got back to our flat around 6:30-7 pm. I didn't go out but later that night about 9 pm or so ALL THE GIRLS came into my flat singing "Happy Birthday to you!" It was so wonderful! :) THEN, 3 more girls (I thought all the girls were there) came in so they sang the birthday song AGAIN!! hahaha. Then, most of the girls stayed and we all chatted about the whole trip. It was really nice all being in the same room for once and not chatting about the play's and everything like we do in class. But we were talking about funny things that happened and our favorite moments. It was a lot of fun! An hour later, 2 out of 4 of the guys walk in and start singing Happy birthday to me !!! It was hilarious! Then, 5 minutes later the other 2 guys walk in and sing AGAIN!!!!!!!!!! I don't think I have ever gotten sang "Happy Birthday" to this many times! It was absolutely flattering and made me so happy. 2 hours later, everyone left to go back to their own flats and go to bed. What a great birthday :)
Times they sang Happy Birthday to me:
1- Tuesday night, birthday eve at the bar
2- When all but 3 of the girls walk into my flat
3- 3 more girls walk into my flat
4- 2 of the guys come in
5- 2 more of the guys
5 times!!!! :)
